In 1983, a dream, a child, and a legacy were born...
Bob Parker Sr., driven by an independent ambition and a quiet determination to provide for his newly founded family took apart his first washing machine. Bob Junior (Little Bob) had just been born, and the weight of a father's responsibility to care for his family sparked a new motivation and vision from Bob Senior. What had begun out of curiosity and thriftiness became a new passion. Bob and his brother Peter decided to join forces to open a humble service shop out of a home basement and garage in Green Bay, WI. Some of Little Bob's earliest memories were of creeping out of bed in the wee hours of the morning, sneaking into the basement, and peeking above or around the rows of appliances his father was so diligently determined to repair. The Parker Brothers' combined efforts didn't take long to make an impact, and soon after, they opened their first official storefront on East Mason Street.
From the age of five, Little Bob looked forward to going to work with his dad. He eagerly served whatever function he was able to, from manning the coffeemaker, helping customers decide which machine to buy, answering phones and acting as an all around shop keep retrieving tools for his father, to organizing the bench keeping floors and windows clean. As the family grew from one, to three, to eventually 12 children in total, the company grew as well to meet the need. When he turned 10 years old, Little Bob was formally inducted into the obscure art of appliantology, learning to master washing machines at first—cutting his teeth on the classic Maytag, working on old-school Whirlpools replacing wig-wags, as well as the Whirlpool direct-drive model, which went on to become the standard for many years. From there, he went on to learn about the platforms and machines for all the different home appliances, as well as all other aspects of customer service and small business. Summers and weekends were spent devoted to the family business.
"As Parkers, our work is our bond."
After years of operation as Green Bay's go-to shop for appliances and furniture, Bob Sr., with piqued curiosity, branched off into a new venture. He had conceived a proprietary design for commercial freeze dryers, so he decided to move on from the home appliance field. Following this lead, he found new success inventing products from scratch. Little Bob (not so little anymore) struck out on his own path. Spending a couple of years exploring other service-oriented work, which included work as a stained glazier building and restoring stained glass windows, he then began pursuing his passion for fine dining working for Hinterland restaurant and brewery.
On a lark, Little Bob, now better known as Robert, took a trip to Baltimore. There, he found his Joy, his One True Love, and they were soon married. He worked in fine dining around Baltimore, receiving excellent training, guidance, and insight from friend Nelson Carey, the founder of Grand Cru, and then moving on to work for Woodberry Kitchen, Petit Louis, among others. But now with a family of his own, he decided to return to what he knew best as the sole proprietor of Parker Appliance Repair. This project lived for a short time before he decided to join up with one of the industry's leaders and local icons, Lander's Appliance, where he worked for 12 years as a senior technician. In 2024, upon the retirement of the original owner (and friend), Robert decided to follow in his Father's footsteps, to endeavor beyond and strike out on his own again, hoping to provide an opportunity to pass on to his own sons the arcane secrets of appliantology, to keep the sacred tradition alive and pass its flame on to the next generation.
